Norway is an absolutely beautiful country and is worth visiting at least once. However, one of the biggest obstacles when visiting Norway is the expense. You can make it as budget-friendly as you can by staying in hostels, taking public transportations, go to free events, but when it comes to food we found some helpful ways to cut down on that expense.
Starting with the biggest lifesaver the “Too Good To Go” app. This app is set up with several grocery stores and bakeries in the different cities around the world. At the end of the day when products are past the date to sell on their selves they list the products on the “Too Good To Go” app where you can purchase for a discounted price. Most times you purchase the products as a surprise bag giving you a variety of goods.
We have used this app several times in Norway and in Italy and we have ended up with some very yummy food. The products are still in very good condition and have had no issues with produce that had gone bad. Thankfully, there are several options to chose from and you can set filters on the search to location, price, and even the stores you prefer. This app saved us so much money, highly, highly recommend.
The next option is to purchase food at the grocery store. Which is an excellent option to save on money. There are several budget-friendly grocery stores to choose from in Norway. There’s Kiwi, Rema 1000, and Coop Extra. These will be your best options when trying to purchase items from the grocery store at a decent price.
Another option is to pack some of your own snacks and freeze-dried food before traveling to Norway. We packed some extra crackers, nuts, and other snacks before traveling to Norway and it saved us from having to purchase the same things at their grocery stores for at least double the price. Trust me, take out the extra pair of pants you probably won’t wear and replace it with some food. Your wallet will thank me later.

Try some reindeer sausage. While visiting Tromso we came across a food stand selling reindeer sausage for $5.00. Which you actually got a pretty decent size sausage with a bun and several topping and it tasted great. We went back there several times. It was a pretty decent eat for the price.
