Edoardo is the best of both worlds. Giving you unique, fresh flavors, and a great location. The gelato is certified organic, the waffle cones are homemade, and the ingredients are of high quality. Located next to the Piazza del Duomo making it is a great spot to grab some gelato and sit and people watch. This place we came back to multiple times and the quality never wavered. We particularly liked the La Crema, Limone Siracusano,Apple Cinnamon, and Vanilla Tahiti. If you go here it will not disappoint.
Grom
For full disclosure, Grom, is apart of a chain Gelateria. Nevertheless do not let that deceive you into not trying their gelato. When we have gone there it seems to be majority of locals eating at Grom, if that tells you anything. The prices are very reasonable and the flavor is still out of this world.
Vivaldi
This place is nestled outside of the touristy spots, but still a walkable distance. Vivaldi serves some amazing, rich gelato and cappuccino. What really made this place stick out to us, besides the delicious gelato, was the atmosphere. If you keep walking into the store, in the back room they have couches, ambient lighting, soft music, and games. It was a great place to enjoy some gelato, sit back, relax, and play some games. We walked away from Vivaldi with happy stomachs and fun memories.
*If typing this into google maps a place called Vivoli will probably populate into the search bar, this is not the same place. Vivaldi is located on Via deli Renai, 15, 50125 Firenze Fl.
Rome
Come il Latte
Come il Latte put a little piece of heaven on a cone. The gelato is so creamy and delicious and the best part is not only are the cones homemade you can add chocolate to the inside. Game changer. Highly, highly recommend this place.
Magnum Pleasure Store
I know this is not gelato, but do not let that stop you from enjoying this mind-blowing treat. The process is you pick the flavor of magnum bar (milk chocolate, vanilla, dark chocolate), they dip the bar in a chocolate of your choosing, then sprinkle three toppings of your choosing (ie: brownie bites, salted peanuts, pistachios, etc), and then top it off with drizzling a chocolate of your choosing. Wow. I was a little ashamed to go into an ice cream shop while in Italy, but I have been to Italy four times and each time I stop for some Magnum.
Naples
Il Gelato Mennella
We found this place just cause we were walking by and we thought it was going to be one of those places that would be okay, but it completely surprised us by the how creamy and delish it was. Plus you get a decent amount for a great price. If in Naples this place is a go to.
How to Find Good Gelato
I do not want to limit your gelato experience just to this list. We were told by many local Italians how to find good gelato. So while you are out and about look for these couple of tips and you are sure to find your own hidden gems.
Steer clear of gelato that is brightly colored
If it stacked really high, definitely, a sign this is not authentic gelato
Gelato that has bright colors is an indicator that they are using artificial coloring and if it is stacked really high is another indicator that they are using a lot of preservatives to keep that gelato formed and was probably whipped to containing more air then authentic gelato which is slowly churned giving it that creamy texture.
What you want to look for is gelato that has natural colors and is level to the container it is in (usually in a metal container with a lid). This ensures the gelato is even in temperature when served.
I hope this helps you find some amazing gelato! If you have any questions feel free to reach out and of coarse Bon Appétit!
